According to the Associated Press, Monarch Butterflies have now been added to the endangered species list. Duke University Ecologist Stuart Pimm says,

It’s just a devastating decline, this is one of the most recognizable butterflies in the world.”

Experts say the population of Monarch Butterflies in the United States has declined between 22% - 72% over the course of 10 years. Conservation Biologist Nick Haddad says,

“What we’re worried about is the rate of decline, it’s very easy to imagine how very quickly this butterfly could become even more imperiled.”
