Next Up Artist of the Week: Ginette Claudette

Meet our current Next Up Artist of the Week - Ginette Claudette

Ginette is a New York native with music running through her DNA. Following in the footsteps of her mother - a famous singer in the Dominican Republic - Ginette is pursuing stardom. Watch above as she met up with KIIS FM's EJ to chat all about her musical past, growing up in New York City and what she's working on for the future.

When asked what it was like growing up in NYC knowing that she wanted to sing, she says:

I've been singing since I was three, my mother was a singer so I kind of just like always watched her and took after her. But I was lucky I had a church across the street - so I would always sing in church. I would always enter talent shows in school. I was totally that kid that was involved in every single thing. I always had that tunnel vision that I always wanted to do music...New York is a great place to do that because there's so much creative energy in every corner.

Ginette says her mother recognized she'd be an artist early on, as she had mature emotional reactions to sad songs as a child. As she's grown up, Ginette cites her musical influences as Aaliyah, TLC, SWV, The Fugees, Lauryn Hill, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, NSync and The Backstreet Boys. A very eclectic group of artists, but she credits her R&B/Pop sound to appreciating their work.

EJ noted that he feels people are missing that 90's R&B sound that Ginette has in her music and she agreed saying:

I think people just miss feeling like whatever they're feeling - whether it's sad or happy but just like sitting in that feeling. I feel like that genre of music just really allows you to do that. It's not so light and fluffly. Sometimes people want to be sad - or want to be really happy.

When it comes to what's next, Ginette revealed that an EP followed by an album could be on the horizon. To get a taste of her sound, watch below as she acoustically performs 'True' and 'Twisted.'
