REDONDO BEACH (CNS) - Wind gusts as high as 68 mph were reported in parts of Southern California Monday and created dangerous and damaging conditions over the weekend.

Gusty winds caused organizers of the three-day Beach Life Festival in Redondo Beach to shut down a few hours early Sunday.

"It is with great sadness that we must cancel our programming at Beach Life this Sunday evening due to a serious wind event that put the general public at risk," event organizers posted on Facebook. "While we take extraordinary measures to keep our fans, staff and artists safe, and while absolutely none of our engineered structures or systems failed, winds quickly reached very dangerous speeds and we put safety first."

The event was shut down around 6 p.m. Sunday, according to Redondo Beach Police Lt. M. Valdivia.

The popular event featured Sting on Friday night, Incubus on Saturday night and My Morning Jacket was supposed to perform at 7:50 p.m. Sunday. ZZ Top performed Sunday afternoon.
